The New Boat
We commissioned the original TUNER in 1990 at Mirage Mfg. in Gainesville, FL and worked with the factory designing the fishing layout. She was hull #5 in Mirage’s sportfish line and was the first walk around console model. In the years since, we logged over 8000 hours on the hull in most every kind of weather and sea conditions. She was a dry, stable and comfortable platform to fish from.
The new TUNER is a 2014 Mirage hull, 34 feet long built from hand-laid, knitted fiberglass roving with Divynicel PVC closed cell foam coring...all components are glassed together, resulting in a relatively light and super strong unit. The coring makes her unsinkable in any event short of a fire....and we carry both automatic and manual fire extinguishers to make sure that doesn't happen!
The new boat is powered by twin Suzuki 300hp outboards that allow a top speed over 50 knots and a cruise speed of 30-40 knots depending on the sea conditions. We can get out to the fish fast and get back just as quickly
Electronics include state of the art networked Garmin 12 inch screens with GPS, satellite weather, CHIRP 1000 watt sounder unit, 72 mile 12kw color radar, two ship-to-shore VHF radios and a GPIRB for saftey. Sirius radio or the Ipod are the second and third options for your listening pleasure….following the sound of a screaming reel!
There is a small cabin to stow your dry gear. The cabin also allows ladies to utilize a bucket in privacy! The hull and interior are Awlgripped, please only wear deck shoes or shoes with non-marking soles. Anything else…especially running shoes or boots with black soles….leaves marks that are impossible to remove without repainting. Boat shoes or barefoot...its your choice.
For bottom fishing, we use Penn Senator reels and Coach’s Custom rods. Deep-drop electric reels are available for fishing in depths greater than 200 feet. We are also setup for offshore trolling with 24 foot Rupp outriggers that allow a spread of up to eight rods. Unless we’re looking for large marlin, we use Shimano 2-speed TLD30s for offshore trolling due to the light weight and ease of handling. A full complement of 50 and 80lb tackle is available for the big girls.
